Michael Eric Dyson (most well known for his arguments with Bill Cosby) has written a lot on the common event of minorities making it to the middle and upper classes from the lower classes and then doing nothing to help their fellow minorities out of the same predicament. In some sense it is a moral one to help those who are oppressed, but more than anything it is often agreed upon by Ethnic Studies professors and anyone who delves into race theory that the typical conservative line is an illogical one for minorities to hold onto when they've benefitted from the typical liberal line. No one will say that they can't do it because they have every right to do what they will with what freedom they have. The qualm is more with the logic behind the position rather than the morality.

When the article says that "blacks... rise above racial self-interest" more of the "liberals" (at least the ones who know their race theory) would disagree and despise characterizing affirmative action policies as a "racial self-interest" issue. Affirmative action is in the interest of everyone because of the opportunities it gives the majority to become more appreciative of the diversity of human experiences through more interactions with the minority.

This is a oversimplified explanation of a very complex problem, but Mr. Taranto shows himself to be at least as guilty as Ms. Goodman.
